The Samsung Galaxy S8 & Galaxy S8 Plus smartphones were released in March of 2017. The phones are the latest flagship from Samsung.

The leaks prior to the release of the device ensured that we knew all the specifications beforehand.

Design: its impressive with all glass back, thin aluminum bezel and perfect finish.

These phones are successors to both the S7 and S7 Edge respectively. The name “Edge” was dropped this time around because both phones have a curving display.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Screen Review

To start you off, the display of the S8 and S8 Plus is larger than the S7 and S7 Edge respectively. This is despite the smartphone having a smaller footprint compared to the predecessor.

What is different this time around, is that in both smartphones, the display is curved unlike last year’s model where only one was.

The display size of the S8 is 5.8 inches while the S8+ is 6.2 inches. Both screens have been elongated which ensures a slimmer profile for the devices.

With this, the Samsung Logo usually displayed at the top had to go. Instead it is replaced by a screen icon.

When it comes to the resolution of the screen, Samsung don’t disappoint. In Kenya Samsung smartphones usually have the best displays.

Both smartphone screens support High Dynamic Range, this means you will have better video quality and vividness.

Camera

Compared to the 2016 model, the SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 (PLUS) camera hasn’t really had much of an upgrade.

I would say that a lot of people are not happy with this. But in my own personal opinion, the focus really was not on the camera, instead, it was on a design refresh and ensuring no flame problems that they experienced with the Note 7.

The smartphone features a 12MP rear sensor. And just like we have come to expect it is a great performer in low light conditions and super responsive.

In addition, this time around Samsung included MULTI-FRAME IMAGE. What this basically does is take multiple photos and then finds the sharpest and clearest. So overall: the camera has been improved.

Let’s talk about the front facing camera now. The S8 comes with an 8MP sensor. This also, has almost the same specifications as the S7. However, several effects have been added to make it more “fun”. This includes a range of Augmented reality effects.

Samsung dint really touch the battery of the smartphone. The S8 still retains the same 3000mAh from last year. However, the screen is larger which means that it somehow ships with a smaller battery.

Its counterpart, the S8 Plus has a 3500mAh battery with the same features as the normal S8.

It can be argued that since the phone has a 21% battery management improvement, the phone didn’t need a boost in this department.

Also, the wireless charging will come in handy coupled with fast charge capability. I would say in the recent years, the biggest improvements we have seen in phones is fast charge. Something like 20 minutes of charging gives you 40 percent charge is one of the best features to have in a smartphone.

Samsung Galaxy S8 Performance: Processor, RAM and Storage

Just like they have done previously, in USA, the phone is powered with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 while the rest of the world uses the Exynos 8895.

We all know what these processors are capable of, so I won’t go there, but just know your games will run smoothly.

Also, the smartphone comes with a 4GB RAM which is enough power to run every app and for smooth multi-tasking.

You should know that the Samsung Galaxy S8 plus runs Android 7.0 in Kenya. The device offers improvements in terms of security and battery management.

Samsung Galaxy S8 vs Galaxy S8 Plus

The two phones are almost the same, except in the department of battery capacity, Screen size and overall size.

The difference here is just those, in terms of screen quality, they are all the same, processor – same, RAM – same, Storage capacity is also similar.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is one of the top best looking phone in my personal opinion. The metal frame has a very tiny bezel with a glass back.
