Initially, in Kenya, buying goods online was seen as a way to be easily conned. However, things have changed in the last few years.
This is as a result of many trusted players entering the Kenyan market. These included Jumia Kenya, Kilimall and other online shops.
Am sure I was among the first people to buy from Jumia. This is because it took less than 24 hours to process my order and a notification was sent to me that the order was on the way.
Now, in those days, they used to call people to confirm their orders. I don’t know if that changed for new customers. But since then I made an order around 3 months ago, but I was not called to confirm it.
I don’t know if this is because i have made over 8 purchases from Jumia and I am somehow trusted. However, there was this one time I almost bought a phone from there but changed my mind.
I cancelled the order and that was it.
When it comes to Kilimall, I have bought 3 phones from them. They also used to call people to confirm their orders.
I also don’t know if that changed because its been long since I bought something from there. In my experience, Kilimall are usually a bit faster in processing their orders. This is because Jumia processes more orders than Kilimall.
Here are the advantages of Buying Online goods in Kenya.
1. Convenience:
The good thing about shopping online in Kenya is that you know you can shop at anytime, any day and all the time. Also, you don’t have to make a physical appearance at the store. Added to that, know that you can shop from anywhere, the car, home, office and even when taking a dump.
2. Best prices, offers, deals
In my personal opinion, some of the best deals can be found online.(Just take a look at these laptop deals in Kenya) It is rear that you find a price that beats or matches that of an online store in a brick and mortar store. Sometimes, it is because there is no middleman. The online store might be dealing with the manufacturer directly.
3. Variety of Products
Almost everything that can be found in “under one roof supermarkets” can also be found in online stores such as Jumia and Kilimall in Kenya.
The convenience of spending little energy to browse the online store is “neat”. On the other hand, to cover all even half of a mall in Kenya these days takes a lot of energy. Just visit 2 Rivers and you will get what I mean.
4. Minimized expenses
Trust me, the price of hiring a taxi to carry your large TV from a supermarket; is higher if you compare with the delivery charges of online stores. And, if you live in Nairobi, you can be able to get free delivery within the city.
Also, when you buy expensive goods, the delivery fee is sometimes not charged.
5. Easy Price Comparison
You can easily compare the price of various available goods online. This will enable you to make the best choice when it comes to price. The days of walking around with a pen a pieces of paper noting down the various prices of goods are long gone.
6. You can make discreet purchases
This one is self explanatory. You will enjoy the luxury of being able to buy whatever you need in “incognito mode”. You don’t have to worry about those prying eyes in the supermarket.
7. Delivery in all parts of Kenya
The best thing about buying online is that you will have the goods delivered to you at the most convenient location. All online stores deliver to all major towns in Kenya. These are Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, Nakuru, Eldoret, Kisii, Kakamega, Thika, Ruiru, Kikuyu, Naivasha, Nyeri, Kiambu, Bomet, Kericho, Bungoma, Narok, Taita-Taveta, Busia, Machakos, Tharaka Nithi, Meru, Embu and all other places i have not mentioned.
In fact, you can get your goods phone/ electronics/ clothes (basically all goods) delivered to all the 47 counties of Kenya.
